Class Descriptions

 

 

 

 

 

Becky Rink:

Sculpting 101 –

In this 2 hour session, students will learn the fundamentals in sculpting.  The first hour is lecture where Becky will review what to consider when sculpting cakes.  In the second hour, you'll learn how to create armatures and support systems for your sculpted piece.

Sculpting 102 –

In this 2 hour session, students will take what they've learned in Sculpting 101 and apply it to a real cake.  In this class, students will take 4 6" round cakes and create a somewhat life like fish jumping out of the water.  You will learn how to determine armature/doweling, sculpt the cake, and cover in fondant. 

* Final coloring and detail work will be completed if time allows.

Not Your Momma’s Chocolate Flowers –

In this 2 hour session, students will learn how to make modeling chocolate and create beautiful flowers.  Learn how to create thinned edges that will help to create movement.  Students will learn how to make a rose, lily, daisy, calla lily, hydrangea, petunia and leaves.  Students will also learn how to turn some of these flowers into a rock-n-roll inspired tattoo styled flower.  Very fast paced class.

Working with Wafer Paper –

As an alternate to gumpaste and fondant, wafer paper can be  used as a versatile medium for cake decorating.  In this class, students will learn how to emboss, punch, shimmer, feather, and create beautiful fantasy flowers using basic tools. 

Fondant Cookie Design –

In this class, students will learn how to create beautiful hand painted cookies using fondant and food color.  Use of embossing plates, royal and sugar as embellishments will also be taught.

Edible Jewelry –

In this class students will learn to use poured sugar, molds, and gum paste to create beautiful jewels to adorn your cake. Learn how to create settings for your jewels.

NOTE: You will be working with HOT sugar! Safety rules must be followed  (please note, we will not be created the jewelry box shown in photo, only the jewelry)

        

 

 

Peggy Tucker:

            We are very sorry to announce that our event has been victim of the poor economy, and Peg will not be joining us this year due to low enrollment.  Hopefully we will be able to have her back another time! J  Most of the classes she was offering will be taught by another instructor – please note that content will vary slightly from what Peg would offer, but will still be loads of learning and fun for all.

 

 

Diane Simmons:

Poured Sugar –

We will be working with Isomalt to create a beautiful small sugar piece. 

* All supplies included with a $10 additional fee.

3-d Mosaic Design –

You will learn how to carve mosaic designs into the fondant using patterns or free hand cutting flowers and leaves.  We will then paint the mosaic in brilliant colors of your choice and using gumpaste petals we will create the 3-d design.

Fondant Bows & Ribbons –

We will be making beautiful embossed double bows and ribbons with a professional look. Then we will talk about the many ways to use them.

 

 

        

 

 

Carol Lowe:

            Fondant Fabric –

In this 2-hour class students will work with fondant to create fabric-like effects.  Some of the techniques to be covered will be stenciling, texturing, pleating and draping.

NOTE:  Photo shown is an example of technique, NOT the class project!

Farmyard Critters –

In this 2-hour class students will create the cow and pig, with a third animal as time allows.

Gumpaste Filler Flowers –

In this 2-hour class students will work with gumpaste to create fast and easy small flowers to use to complete arrangements.  We will concentrate on “finger flowers” that don’t need special cutters.

3-d Fishbowl Cake –

In this 2-hour class students will work with real cake to create an adorable fish bowl; perfect for birthday celebrations or kids parties.

Michaelle Stidham:

GELATIN BOW  - 

Discover the wonderful world of gelatin!  Looks delicate like pulled sugar but is actually very durable and made from gelatin.  Learn the gelatin basics from blooming the gelatin to painting the impression sheets while creating a translucent package bow embellished with a delicate sparkling butterfly.

ADVANCED GELATIN FLOWERS  - 

Now that you have learned the basic gelatin skills, continue to learn new techniques to create more complicated flowers like Roses, Carnations, Hydrangeas, Orchids and foliage.  The basics of gelatin will not be covered to allow more time to complete the advanced techniques we have discovered in the wonderful world of gelatin.   Prerequisite class (basic gelatin) is recommended.

PAINTING ON BUTTERCREAM -

Learn fun and versatile technique’s that will work on both buttercream and fondant icing.  Michaelle will show you several basic techniques including sponging, one stroke and more.  Then she will guide you through applying them to create a scene with ease.

FRUIT BOUQUET

During this class you will complete an edible fruit bouquet while learning tricks of the trade and how to use all the garnishing tools.  Leave class with a complete display.  NOTE – there is an additional $5 fee to cover cost of fruit.
