Official Rules and Regulations
1.
Contest is open to all
residents of any state or country age 18 and older with advanced/professional
or masters level
2. ENTRY
FEE is $25.00 – limit 1 entry per person.

Entries for the Wedding Cake Competition MUST

The theme for the competition is “Bridal Party
Attire”. Choose an inspiration piece (or pieces) that you would see worn by any
member of a bridal party – from the bride’s gown, to the flower girl dress, to
the grooms tuxedo! A photo or sample of
your inspiration must be displayed by your cake to aid the judges in evaluating
the effectiveness of your interpretation.
You must use your interpretation of the theme to design and decorate
your cake.

All awards and
decisions of the judges are final.
8.
Real cakes or cake dummies are acceptable. Cake
dummies must be able to be reproduced in cake form. Sculptured cakes must be
made of real cake; submission of at least three in-progress photos is required. NO use of copyrighted material (i.e. Disney
characters) is allowed – any such entries will be accepted for display
only.
9.
You must select a title for your entry. If the title you have chosen has already been
selected, you will be notified and given the opportunity to select another
title.
10.
We
encourage the use of sugar and other edible mediums throughout your display. The use of non-edible items (plastics, silks,
etc.) should be kept to a minimum. Your
own creativity will merit higher points than the use of these items. Disco dust
& dragees are allowed only on removable decorative items.
11.
No electrical outlets
will be available.
12.
Each entrant will be
provided a covered 36 x 30 inch section of a white draped rectangle table on which the cake is to
be displayed. Draping and decoration is NOT required however table
embellishments are allowed . The entrant may have assistance in setting up the cake;
All work on the display must be
the sole work of the contestant.
13.
Entries must be
prepared for the Michigan Sugar Art Showcase only, and have not been in
any prior show, fair, competition, etc.
Confections that have been in previous shows are welcome in the
"display only" area for the enjoyment and appreciation of others.
14.
Cake board/base should
be footed to facilitate handling and minimize damage. (Example: Using a wedding
cake divider plate or gluing small pieces of ½ inch thick foam or cardboard on
the bottom of cake board.)
15.
While every precaution will be taken to ensure
that your display is not touched and/or damaged, the Double Tree Hotel, the
International Cake Exploration Societé, and the Michigan Chapter of ICES will
not be liable for any loss or damage during the time of the show. Use expensive or irreplaceable table
decorations at your own risk.
16.
All entries must be at least 3 tiers,
limit cake base to no more than 30 inches (width of table) to stay within your
36inch table section.
17.
By signing the entry
form, the contestant:
a.
Gives permission to
have their entry photographed and published in any publications the committee
may send it to (i.e. ICES Int’l newsletter, American Cake Deco magazine, etc.)
b.
Agrees to hold no one
responsible if their entry is damaged or stolen.
c.
States that their
entry has not been in any previous show.
d.
Agrees that entry will
be on display until
e. Acknowledges that they must claim any
prizes by
e.
18.
Judging will be done
on a 100 point system as follows:
Neatness of decorations 0-15 points
Degree of Difficulty 0-15 points
Originality / Creativity 0-15 points
Use of color 0-10
points
Neatness of cake covering 0-15 points
Overall artistic impression 0-15 points
Interpretation of theme 0-15 points
The point system is being used to judge
each piece on its own merits, rather than judging one against another.
In the case of ties, the Judges will
reconsider the displays in question in order to break the tie.
19.
All entrants will be
given a certificate for participation.
All entrants will be eligible for many door prize drawings. There will
be ribbons, cash & product prizes, and a grand prize trophy awarded.
20.
After paying any fee’s
for the Cake Show, all moneys collected from entry fees will go toward prizes
for the Cake Show.
21.
Awards Ceremony and
drawings for prizes for the Cake Show will be held Saturday afternoon
22.
Cake show will be open
for public viewing, Sunday
