Official Rules and Regulations
Please read all rules
carefully. It is important to place
yourself in the correct division. Make
sure your entry fits a category. If you have
previously won two first place OR best of division, you should move to the next
level. Place yourself fairly - it is to
benefit yourself as well as others who are competing with you! All divisions are open to both self-taught
decorators as well as those who have taken lessons in cake decorating.
1.
Contest is open to all
residents of any state or country age 6 and older at any skill level.
2. ENTRY
FEE is $10.00 for the first entry ($5 for youth division) and $5.00 for
each additional entry. (Example: 3
entries = $20.00) Make check payable to GREAT

All awards and
decisions of the judges are final.
7.
Entries must be the
sole work of the contestant. Dummies are
allowed, but must be reproducible in cake form.
NO use of copyrighted material (i.e. Disney characters) is allowed – any
such entries will be accepted for display only.
8.
The use of non-edible
items (plastics, silks, etc.) should be kept to a minimum. Your own creativity will merit higher points
than the use of these items. Disco dust and dragees are allowed on removable
decorations.
9.
No electrical outlets
will be available.
10.
Each entrant may enter
only one division. Only one item may be
entered per category, but you may enter as many categories as you wish in your
division.
11.
Special backdrops,
table coverings, pictures or literature are not allowed - including advertising
of any form. Cake stand embellishments
are allowed.
12.
Entries must be
prepared for the Michigan Sugar Art Showcase only, and have not been in
prior show. Confections that have been
in any previous shows are welcome in the "display only" area for the
enjoyment and appreciation of others.
13.
The cake show
Committee reserves the right to re-assign the skill level of entrants if
needed, as well as to re-categorize, refuse, or disqualify entries as
necessary. I.e. not family friendly or not adhering to the rules. The decisions of the committee are FINAL!
14.
Cake board/base should
be footed to facilitate handling and minimize damage. (Example: Using a wedding
cake divider plate or gluing small pieces of ½ inch thick Styrofoam or
cardboard on the bottom of cake board.)
15.
Entry form must be
signed. Parent must sign any minors
(under 18 years) entering also.
16.
By signing the entry
form, the contestant:
a.
Gives permission to
have their entry photographed and published in any publications the committee
may send it to (i.e. ICES Int’l newsletter, American Cake Deco magazine, etc.)

Judging will be done
on a 60 point system as follows:
Originality / Creativity 0-10 points
Degree of Difficulty 0-10 points
Use of color 0-10
points
Neatness of cake covering 0-10 points
Neatness of decorations 0-10 points
Overall artistic impression 0-10 points
At the judge’s discretion, additional
points may be awarded for outstanding displays of confectionery
workmanship. The point system is being
used to judge each piece on its own merits, rather than judging one against
another. This system is considered to be
the fairest for each entrant. A low number of entries in a category does
not guarantee a first, second, or third place.
Points will not apply to Best of Show, Best of Division, or Decorator’s
Choice awards.
4.
All entrants will be given
a certificate for participation. Ribbons
and prizes will be awarded in all divisions.
All entrants will be eligible for many door prize drawings.

the Cake Show.
6.
Awards Ceremony and
drawings for prizes for the Cake Show will be held Saturday afternoon

To determine the
